The Georgian government plans to establish the Georgian Academy of Diplomacy, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced at today’s government session.

Kobakhidze stated that the academy will focus on training highly qualified personnel for Georgia’s diplomatic service.

“The relevant faculties of state and private universities today are essentially unable to provide the necessary knowledge and skills for future diplomats,” the PM said. He added that departmental subordination would help ensure a high standard of teaching and research at the academy.

Kobakhidze compared the planned institution to existing state-run academies, including the Georgian Defense Academy, the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Security Academy.

The PM thanked Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for preparing the concept for the project.

Kobakhidze stated that the academy is expected to begin operating from September next year after completing the authorization process. He said the goal is to strengthen Georgia’s diplomatic service and foreign policy positions through the training of qualified personnel.
