The Georgian government will allocate 5,3 million GEL for celebrations marking the 1,700th anniversary of the declaration of Christianity as the state religion.

The funding will come from the government reserve fund, according to a decree.

The government administration says anniversary events will run from June 1 until October 14, with activities starting in a wider format from May 26.

The programme will include cultural and educational events, scientific conferences and student expeditions, as well as religious commemorations such as the feast of Svetitskhoveli. A symposium titled “God, Homeland, Human” is also planned for October 14.

The co-chairs of the organising commission are the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze and the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Archbishop of Mtskheta-Tbilisi and Metropolitan of Bichvinta and Tskhum-Abkhazia Shio III.

The government says the events will be carried out in coordination with the Government of Georgia and the Patriarchate.
