The Ministry of Defense of Georgia has registered a draft law in Parliament requiring Georgian citizens residing abroad to return to Georgia after receiving a draft notice.
The bill, which will be discussed in its first reading at the Defense Committee session on April 6, states that conscripts must return within a reasonable period of time and appear before the conscription commission.
The draft law also says that failure to receive a notification will not release a conscript from liability. In such cases, the notification will be published on the official website of the authorized body no later than the second working day and will be considered delivered on the seventh day after publication.
“In this case, the person will be obliged to report to the body authorized to conduct military registration of conscripts or call up conscripts for national military service within 10 calendar days from the official delivery of the notification,” the explanatory note states.
In addition, the family members to whom the notification may be delivered will be defined.
