A new international film initiative, ‘Dutch Film Week,’ is taking place in Tbilisi from March 25 to 29, bringing a curated selection of contemporary Dutch cinema to local audiences. The project is organized by CinExpress in partnership with the Embassy of the Netherlands in Georgia. Screenings will be held at the Blue Hall of the Cinema House.

The program showcases a diverse range of films, including fiction, documentary and experimental works, with a particular focus on directors Ineke Smits, an internationally recognized Dutch filmmaker known for her collaboration with Georgian artists, and Tato Kotetishvili. Their films explore themes of memory and identity, often blending documentary and narrative forms.

The festival opened on March 25 at 19:00 after an official welcome by Meline Arakelian.

The opening program included:

  • Rose, Violet & Lily (1992) – a surreal narrative set in a fuel-scarce Georgia
  • Emotional Constructions (1988) – an experimental work
  • All the Sounds of the World (1985) – an exploration of memory and perception
  • Nostalgia (1999) – a documentary on post-civil war experiences in Georgia

Additional screenings include:

  • Whitetail (2025), directed by Nanouk Leopold (March 26)
  • The World According to Carlijn (2024), directed by Ariane Greep (March 29)
  • Gerlach (2023), directed by Aliona van der Horst and Luuk Bouwman (March 29)
