Georgia’s environmental authorities recorded 156 cases of illegal forest use in April, including unlawful timber harvesting and sawmill violations, the Department of Environmental Supervision says.

Of the total, 125 cases involved illegal logging and transportation of timber, while 31 were linked to breaches of technical regulations and illegal sawmill operations. Nineteen cases contain signs of criminal offenses and have been forwarded to relevant authorities.

More than 254 cubic meters of illegally harvested timber were seized during the month, while one unregistered sawmill was sealed.

Regionally, the highest number of violations, 48, was recorded in Adjara, followed by 36 in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti and 24 in Kakheti. Other regions recorded smaller numbers of cases, while one incident of illegal timber transportation was identified in Tbilisi.

The agency says its patrol and rapid response teams conduct 24-hour nationwide monitoring to prevent and detect environmental violations, responding to reports via a hotline.

In total, 651 cases of illegal forest use were identified across Georgia in the first four months of 2026, with 20 illegal sawmills sealed.
