The US Embassy in Georgia has clarified that the United States has not imposed financial sanctions against Bidzina Ivanishvili or his family members. This statement was reported by “Radio Liberty,” which referenced the embassy’s response.
“The United States has not imposed financial sanctions against Bidzina Ivanishvili or his family members. The US Treasury Department publicly publishes all financial sanctions,” the embassy stated.
This clarification follows a report by TV company “Formula” on October 2, which alleged that the bank accounts of Ivanishvili’s children living abroad had been restricted. Report said access to some accounts was “completely suspended,” while others were placed “in operating mode with limited financial resources.” The TV company suggested that these actions were linked to potential “pre-sanctions” measures under a previous sanctions regime.
