The US Ambassador to Georgia, Kelly Degnan, believes an important step has been taken with the release of Nika Melia, the chairman of the United National Movement.
US Ambassador noted that the political parties should work on electoral and judicial reform that is part of the April 19 agreement proposed by European Council President Charles Michel. She calls on parties to continue work to restore confidence in the public both in election results and judicial decisions.
“We encourage all of the parties, all of the MPs to enter parliament and continue the hard work to finish implementing this agreement. We’re very encouraged to see the parties negotiating over the weekend. I understand they’re going to continue those negotiations on electoral reform. This is an essential element of the April 19 agreement, and in ensuring that the October local elections will run smoothly and will have the full confidence of voters,” Degnan pointed out.
