Two more individuals have been found guilty in the case surrounding the killing of Giga Avaliani. The court found Demetre Chikovani guilty of preparing to intentionally inflict grievous bodily harm, while Ani Naskidashvili was convicted of failure to report a crime. The ruling was delivered by Judge Demetre Jinjolia.
A sentencing hearing for both defendants is scheduled for June 2.
Prosecutor’s Office says on the evening of September 29, 2025, Aleksandre Gabashvili, Giorgi Rikadze and Demetre Chikovani went to an educational center in Tbilisi’s Zghvis Ubani district with the intention of settling a score. Prosecutors say the group ambushed the location and had created all the conditions necessary to carry out an attack, but were unable to execute their plan that day due to circumstances beyond their control.
The prosecution states that on October 1, 2025, based on a plan developed by Gabashvili, Rikadze and Chikovani, Aleksandre Gabashvili and Giorgi Rikadze jointly attacked Giga Avaliani, inflicting grievous bodily injuries. Avaliani later died in a medical facility on October 24.
The Prosecutor’s Office further stated that although Ani Naskidashvili was aware that a serious crime was being prepared and had been committed, she did not report it to law enforcement authorities.
The court found Demetre Chikovani guilty under Article 18 and Subparagraph “l” of Part 3 of Article 117 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which concerns preparation for intentional grievous bodily harm committed by a group and carries a sentence of up to 13 years in prison.
Ani Naskidashvili was found guilty under Part 2 of Article 376 of the Criminal Code, concerning failure to report a particularly serious crime, which carries a sentence of up to seven years in prison.
The first verdict in the Giga Avaliani murder case was announced on April 5, when Judge Romeo Tkeshelashvili found Aleksandre Gabashvili and Giorgi Rikadze guilty. Prosecutors accused them of intentionally inflicting grievous bodily harm as a group, resulting in death, as well as organizing and participating in violent group activity.
On April 8, both were sentenced to 14 years in prison. Under Georgia’s Juvenile Justice Code, their sentences were reduced by one quarter, meaning Gabashvili and Rikadze will serve 10 years and six months in prison.
Demetre Chikovani was also found guilty alongside them in a separate violent offence and sentenced to nine years in prison. Under the Juvenile Justice Code, his sentence was reduced to six years and nine months.
Giga Avaliani, a 28-year-old teacher, was attacked on October 1, 2025, while walking home from work and died in hospital on October 24.
Investigators say jealousy was the motive behind the crime. Avaliani tutored students in mathematics. One of his students reportedly told her boyfriend about alleged unwanted communication from Avaliani. Prosecutors say the boyfriend, together with friends, planned the assault and physically attacked Avaliani on October 1.
The murdered teacher’s family has demanded that charges also be brought against Avaliani’s student, whom they accuse of encouraging her boyfriend to act against the teacher.
