Traffic restrictions announced around Sameba Cathedral on May 11 due to Patriarch election

Temporary traffic restrictions will be in effect around Tbilisi’s Holy Trinity Cathedral (Sameba Cathedral) on May 11, from 09:00 to 18:00, due to the election of the 142nd Patriarch of Georgia, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) said.

Ministry says vehicle movement will be prohibited from Bukhaidze Street toward Samreklo Street. Traffic on Bukhaidze Street will also be partially restricted, with access to the affected section permitted only for pedestrians.

Additional restrictions will apply at Akhvlediani Square and Akhvlediani Ascent, as well as from Niabi Street toward Gumbri Street.

Traffic near Avlabari Metro Station will also be limited, with restrictions in place from Gonashvili Street toward Meskhishvili Street.

The MIA said designated parking areas will be arranged at Akhvlediani Square and Khetagurovi Street. From these locations, visitors will be able to reach Sameba Cathedral either by specially allocated minibuses or on foot via Akhvlediani Street.

Pedestrian access to the cathedral will also be available from Avlabari Metro Station through Gonashvili Street.

The election of the new Patriarch of Georgia is scheduled to take place on May 11 during an expanded assembly of the Georgian Orthodox Church at Sameba Cathedral, with around 1,200 delegates expected to attend.
