The commencement of Rustaveli Avenue’s rehabilitation is scheduled for next year, Mayor Kakha Kaladze announced during the Tbilisi Municipality Government meeting.

Kaladze stated that the project’s duration will exceed 2 years, with the initial phase concentrating on the refurbishment of existing buildings.

“At the initiative of the Tbilisi City Hall, the Tbilisi Development Fund will start the rehabilitation works of Rustaveli Avenue from next year, which will be divided into several stages.

In the first stage, within the framework of the project, the damaged roofs, facades, gutters, and structural parts of the buildings on the avenue will be rehabilitated; Artistic-decorative lighting of modern standards will be arranged, and communication networks existing chaotically on the facades will be arranged. There are monuments with the status of cultural heritage in the territory, which need special treatment and the involvement of relevant experts,” said Kaladze.

The road infrastructure on Rustaveli Avenue will be fixed in the second stage.

“The next stage will be the arrangement of the road infrastructure with underground communications. From this point of view, we have a serious situation on the avenue. There are frequent cases of uneven surfaces due to damage to communications. The road works will be carried out at the end when the main part of the facades will be fixed and the buildings will be strengthened.

The rehabilitation project will last more than two years because there are many buildings and road infrastructure to be renewed or added,” said the Tbilisi Mayor.
