Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze announced on Wednesday that elderly residents of the capital aged 100 and over will receive a tenfold increase in the city’s one-time financial assistance program. The amount of support will rise from 1,000 GEL ($350) to 10,000 GEL ($3,508).
Kaladze emphasized that social programs were key components of the capital’s budget, alongside infrastructural projects, as there remain families in need of support. He stated that the municipality is committed to ensuring that no one is left without help, underlining the importance of such initiatives for the elderly population.
Details of the Financial Assistance Program
The updated program will now provide a significantly larger benefit for those over 100 years old. In the previous cycle, 1,000 GEL was distributed to 57 elderly residents, including 23 individuals aged 100 and 34 who were 101 or older.
For citizens or their representatives to receive the benefit, they will need to apply to the City Hall’s Health and Social Services Department. The application process requires submission of the recipient’s ID card and proof of continuous residential registration in Tbilisi for at least one year, as confirmed by the Civil Registry.
Kaladze also noted that those who had previously received assistance under the program would have the increased benefit credited directly to them, eliminating the need for a new application.
