The State Security Service of Georgia has arrested the head of a department of Kodori Hydropower Plant LLC, a subsidiary of the state-owned Enguri Hydropower Plant, operating in occupied Abkhazia.
He is accused of large-scale embezzlement.
“For those who believe they can use the occupied territories of Georgia to embezzle state funds: such a crime will not go unpunished even if committed in the occupied territories,” the State Security Service said.
The agency says the detainee cooperated with the investigation and “confessed to the crime.”
The crime is punishable by 7 to 11 years in prison.
