SSSG Arrests Tsalenjikha City Council Deputy from Gakharia’s Party for Fraud

The Anti-Corruption Agency of the State Security Service has detained Gela Abuladze, the deputy of Giorgi Gakharia’s Party For Georgia in the Tsalenjikha City Council.

The State Security Service claims that Gela Abuladze was arrested for fraud committed by a group. The investigative agency says the investigation revealed that Gela Abuladze asked representative of the Mayor of Tsalenjikha municipality to forge a document certifying the ownership for persons close to him, on the basis of which the Mayor’s representative compiled false identity documents.

For Georgia party members call the detention “illegal.”

Party member Berdia Sichinava says the government of the Georgian Dream cannot put up with the lost elections in the municipalities and the change of political reality and is trying to change the choice of citizens through illegal arrests, bribery, sabotage of municipalities, etc.

“This morning, the State Security Service illegally detained Gela Abuladze, a majoritarian deputy of Tsalenjikha Municipality City Council – one of the founders of the Party for Georgia and the head of the 2021 election headquarters in Tsalenjikha.

“We would like to remind you that the State Security Service launched an investigation into this case before the elections to put pressure on Gela Abuladze and his family members, which they failed to do.

“The Government of the Georgian Dream cannot put up with the lost elections in the municipalities and the change of political reality and is trying to change the choice of citizens through illegal arrests, bribery, sabotage of municipalities, etc,” said Sichinava.

For Georgia party member, Korneli Salia, was elected chairman of the Tsalenjikha City Council.

No separate party has a majority in Tsalenjikha City Council. Accordingly, an agreement between different political groups was required to elect a City Council chairman.

Tsalenjikha is the only city that has an oppositioner mayor. Giorgi Kharchilava, a representative of the United National Movement, won the 2021 local self-government elections.
