Direct flights between Tbilisi and Shanghai will begin on July 15, following a decision made during a meeting between the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Mariam Kvrivishvili, and executives of China Eastern Airlines in the People’s Republic of China.
The airline will operate regular flights on the Shanghai–Tbilisi–Shanghai route three times a week.
Kvrivishvili says the launch of direct air connections with China’s main financial center is of “particular importance,” noting that the move is expected to further develop business and economic ties between the two countries.
The minister states that the new route reflects the high level of political and economic relations between Georgia and China, adding that it will strengthen people-to-people ties, support the tourism industry, and contribute to additional revenue generation.
Discussions also focus on Georgia’s role as an official partner country at ITB China 2026, one of Asia’s largest tourism exhibitions, set to take place in Shanghai on May 26–28. The event is expected to promote Georgia’s tourism potential.
