Seven young people were killed and one person seriously injured in a traffic accident that occurred in the municipality of Gardabani on Thursday morning.
Local outlet [24News.ge] published photographs and identified several of the victims. Based on the report, those killed include brothers Alil and Sahir Jalilov, as well as 17- and 19-year-old Shamil and Kamil Aliyev. The victims were reportedly relatives.
Local media reports that five of the young people were from the Karachop community in Sagarejo Municipality, while two were from Gardabani.
The tragedy has sparked an outpouring of grief on social media. Civil activist Samira Bayramova wrote that four of the victims came from just two families, while the parents of two of the deceased had died years earlier, leaving them to be raised by their grandmother.
“With an unimaginably tragic story, four children from two families died. The parents of two of them passed away long ago, and they lived with their grandmother. One was an athlete, another worked as a waiter in a restaurant to help save the family,” Bayramova wrote on social media.
The circumstances surrounding the crash have not yet been fully clarified. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
