The President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, held a meeting in Berlin with the President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, to discuss the pre-election environment in Georgia, which she described as being influenced by Russian interference. The President’s administration shared details of the discussion.
Based on their information, Zurabishvili expressed concern over the challenges facing the Georgian diaspora, who are reportedly encountering artificial barriers preventing them from fully participating in the elections. She also raised issues regarding restrictions on non-governmental organizations (NGOs) operating in Georgia, emphasizing that they are being hindered from carrying out election observation missions.
During the meeting, President Zurabishvili reaffirmed that the Georgian population remains steadfast in its pro-European stance, reiterating that the country’s foreign orientation has always been, and will continue to be, towards Europe.
The German president, for his part, stated that he supported the Georgian president’s “Georgian Charter” and expressed optimism that the pro-European forces would prevail in Georgia. Steinmeier expressed his full support to the Georgian people and their fight for the European future.
