Salome Zurabishvili has strongly criticized the expulsion of protesting students from the Shota Rustaveli Theater and Film University, saying it is a disgraceful act.
“The decision to expel students from the Theater Institute is an unimaginable shame,” Zurabishvili stated, denouncing the university’s actions.
She also emphasized the university’s rectos, Giorgi Shalutashvili, using a sharp historical parallel. “I remember when Shalutashvili proudly spoke of being a descendant of Maro Makashvili,” she said, referring to the young Georgian nurse who became a symbol of sacrifice. “But today, he has failed to see that these expelled students are the real descendants of Makashvili’s legacy, while he has aligned with her murderers, the Bolsheviks.”
Zurabishvili’s comments are in line with the growing disdain toward the university’s administration and the way they handle student protests; public outrage continues.
