Russian Deputy Defense Minister Andrei Belousov and Abkhazia’s de facto Defense Minister Vladimir Anua have signed an intergovernmental agreement to establish a Russian general education school on the territory of the 7th military base in Abkhazia.
“Abkhazia is our trusted ally in the South Caucasus,” Belousov stated, saying that “within the framework of the alliance and strategic partnership agreement, we are creating a unified defense space.”
He emphasized the critical role of Russia’s military presence in the region, calling the base “a primary element in ensuring regional security.” Belousov also noted Moscow’s continued support for strengthening Abkhazia’s armed forces and training military personnel.
Anua praised Russia’s contribution, saying the Abkhaz Defense Ministry “highly values the efforts of Belousov, the Russian Defense Ministry, and the General Staff in strengthening the republic’s defense capabilities.”
