Rally in Support of Saakashvili to be Held Today

Today, December 21, marks the birthday of the third President of Georgia.

On this occasion, at 18:00, a rally demanding the release of Mikheil Saakashvili organized by the United National Movement will be held on Rustaveli Avenue.

A stage will be set up opposite the parliament building, from where speakers will address demonstrators.

Traffic movement on Rustaveli Avenue will be restricted for the demonstration.

Supporters of Saakashvili from the regions of Georgia are expected to join the rally.

For the record, the former president is currently undergoing treatment in the Gori Military Hospital following 50 days of hunger strike. Once the treatment course is over, he is expected to be taken back to the Rustavi Prison. However, several doctors and health experts claim that he needs to undergo the recovery process abroad as he needs both physical and mental rehabilitation, which is not available in Georgia. The above is denied by the local authorities.
