At its plenary session on Thursday, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly adopted the Porto Declaration and accompanying resolutions, reaffirming strong support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia and Ukraine.
In the document, the Assembly urges the Syrian Government to withdraw its recognition of the so-called “independence” of Georgia’s Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) regions, as well as Ukraine’s Donetsk and Luhansk regions. It calls on Damascus to instead recognize the territorial integrity of both countries.
The declaration also condemns the holding of elections in Georgia’s occupied territories under Russian control. It specifically references the presidential election held in Abkhazia on 2 March 2025, which it says is not recognized under international law and constitutes a direct violation of Georgia’s sovereignty.
Furthermore, the Assembly calls on the Russian Federation to revoke its recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia as independent states, to fulfill the EU-mediated 2008 ceasefire agreement, and to cease its militarization and efforts to forcibly separate these regions from Georgia.
