The Prosecutor’s Office has charged Mamuka Khazaradze, leader of “Strong Georgia.” An official statement says prosecutors will petition the court within the legal timeframe to impose a preventive measure against him.
Khazaradze is accused of failing to comply with a lawful request from the Temporary Investigative Commission of Parliament. The investigation found that he was summoned to a commission session on March 25, which was established to examine the activities of the regime governing Georgia from 2003 to 2012 and its political figures. Despite receiving a formal summons signed by the commission chairman on March 22 and being informed of his obligation to attend—along with a warning about legal consequences for noncompliance—Khazaradze did not appear without a valid reason. As a result, he has been charged under Article 349 of the Criminal Code. The Prosecutor’s Office intends to request preventive measures in court.
Article 349 of the Criminal Code penalizes failure to comply with a request from Parliament’s Temporary Investigative Commission. The offense carries a penalty of a fine or imprisonment for up to one year, along with the potential loss of the right to hold office or engage in professional activities for up to three years.
