President Says She will Never Pardon Saakashvili

The President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, made a statement regarding the arrest of Mikheil Saakashvili and stated she would never pardon him.

“Many are asking today whether the president is going to pardon him. The answer is one, simple and final – no, and never, because I will never forget Irina Enukidze’s eyes, nor all the people who were waiting for justice and could not make it to this day, because I am faithful to the spirit that drove me when I stood in this jacket and with bare hands we fought together against a regime that trampled on human rights, free business and law. He sacrificed the health and lives of the people to maintain his power because he made an unacceptable decision for the president of the country when he resigned his citizenship,” said Zurabishvili.

The President noted that Saakashvili had invaded the territory in violation of the state border law, thereby trying to undermine the authority of state law enforcement agencies. She emphasized that Saakashvili wanted to destabilize the country.

“There will be no mass demonstrations, the country is tired, it dreams of justice and peace,” Zurabishvili said.
