President of Latvia: By suspending candidate status, a clear signal should be sent to Georgia

President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkevičs, says the situation in Georgia requires an urgent and strict response from the European Union.

He claimed that by suspending the candidate status, the European Union should send a clear signal to the Georgian government so that the situation does not worsen.

The President of Latvia announced this at the international conference – Riga StratCom Dialogue 2024.

“If we don’t send a very clear and very strong signal [to the Georgian government] and only express verbal concerns, the situation will worsen,” said Edgars Rinkevich.

The President of Latvia called on the Government of Georgia to take into account the wishes of its society and not to succumb to external influences that could hinder the country’s democratic development.

He emphasized that Latvia will support Georgia, but only if the country respects the principles of democracy and the rule of law.
