President: “Men in black” threatening, spreading violence in Tbilisi subway – No police to protect citizens

In the Tbilisi metro, “men in black” are cursing, threatening and spreading violence, – the President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, noted on social media, responding the violence committed against citizens by two masked individuals, which later continued on Rustaveli Avenue, where pro-European rallies have been going on for 19 consecutive days.

“’Men in black’ cursing, threatening and spreading violence in the Tbilisi subway. No police, no law enforcement to protect citizens!!” – the President wrote.

Last night, during a physical confrontation at the rally ongoing on Rustaveli Avenue, law enforcement officers detained two people on administrative charges.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs announced that an investigation into the fact of group violence has been launched under Article 126 of the Criminal Code.

Unknown individuals dressed in civilian clothes first confronted passengers in the metro and then left the Rustaveli metro in the direction of the Parliament, during which time several more clashes occurred. They were very aggressive towards the protesters, with the aim of intimidating them.
