With 83 unanimous votes, Parliament passed in the first reading a legislative package initiated by Georgian Dream that would ban international organizations from organizing lectures, seminars, or similar events for political parties.
The draft also mandates that foreign grants cannot be issued without prior government approval. Accepting such grants without consent will be prohibited and subject to penalties, including a fine double the grant amount. The Anti-Corruption Bureau will oversee enforcement.
The amendments affect the Law on Political Associations of Citizens, the Law on Grants, and related legislation.
Exceptions include grants from international sports organizations and individual scholarships for education or scientific work abroad, which do not require government approval.
