‘I Had a Dream You Won’t Understand Even If I Tell‘ — a documentary about Tevfik Esenç, the last known speaker of the Ubykh language, will be screened in Tbilisi on June 11, followed by a Q&A session with the filmmakers.

The event will take place at Unfound Door at 20:00 Tbilisi time (GMT+4) as part of a community gathering for OC Media members and supporters.

The film, directed by Esenç’s grandchildren Burcu Esenç and Cantekin Cantez, follows his efforts to document the Ubykh language with linguists before his death in 1992, after which the language became extinct. Ubykh is related to Circassian and Abkhazian languages and is associated with the displaced Ubykh and Circassian communities.

The documentary won the Best Documentary Award at the 2019 Kayseri Film Festival. It features Turkish, Circassian, Ubykh, Abkhaz, French and Norwegian languages, with English subtitles.

The screening will be followed by a live discussion with directors Burcu Esenç and Cantekin Cantez.

Attendance is limited and requires registration and a minimum €5 donation.
