The enthronement ceremony of Georgia’s newly elected Catholicos-Patriarch will be held on May 12 at the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral in Mtskheta.
His Holiness Shio III, the newly elected Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, announced the date following his election.
Patriarchate says the decision regarding the date of the enthronement was made personally by the new Patriarch.
His Holiness Shio III was elected as the 142nd Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia during the expanded council of the Georgian Orthodox Church held earlier today at the Holy Trinity Cathedral (Sameba Cathedral) in Tbilisi.
Shio III, formerly the locum tenens of the Patriarchal Throne and Metropolitan of Senaki and Chkhorotsku, secured 22 votes in the election, surpassing the threshold required to avoid a second round of voting.
