Mezvrishvili: Gov’t preparing to rig 2024 elections- We’ll contribute to conduct free & fair elections

Georgian Dream intends to subordinate CEC on a legislative level and is preparing to rig the 2024 elections, Natia Mezvrishvili, Deputy Chairperson of the party ‘For Georgia,’ stated at a briefing.

She claimed that GD started this process long ago, when: It refused to implement anti-corruption and justice reforms, which would ensure conduct of elections free of political corruption, systemic pressure and threat; attacked national observation missions and international organizations providing funding to national and international observation missions to undermine public trust in them and ensure the conduct of elections without reliable observation missions.

According to her, today the Ruling Party continues preparation for rigging elections by refusing to create Parliamentary investigative commissions, to retain political corruption and shadow money as a tool for election rigging.

“Over the past 2 years, GD abolished all independent institutions, which should have played a controlling function of Government and ensure the conduct of elections in a free and fair environment.

Legislative changes planned with respect to CEC is a formalization of an attempt to rig the 2024 elections.

Election rigging is the only tool for the Government, deprived of political resources, completely outside the legal framework, violating the constitution every day, to maintain power.

Free and fair elections is the only way of peaceful, democratic political changes in Georgia. Therefore, we have to protect the 2024 elections in order to bring the Country back on the right democratic track and protect its European future.

Political party For Georgia will actively work to contribute to the conduct of free and fair elections. We urge the entire political spectrum, NGO’s international organizations, media, and experts – to direct all efforts to protect elections. The way to save the European future of the Country goes through this,” Natia Mezvrishvili stated.
