Media, Public Organizations Launch Campaign ‘Take Step Towards Europe’

NGOs and media are launching a new campaign entitled ‘Take a Step Towards Europe’.

At the presentation of the campaign, the organizations read a joint manifesto, which emphasizes the aspirations of the Georgian people towards the country’s European integration:

“A historical stage is coming for our homeland. In a few weeks, it will be decided what the future will bring for us and our children. Today is the time when we, all living generations of this country, no matter how frustrated and tired we may be, must decide whether we want Georgia, its people, its ancient culture and its tireless pursuit of development to take on new impetus and continue our path as a state and nation.

“Many generations before us have made this choice and thus handed it over to us to protect, take care and prosper our state,” said the campaign participants.

They note that dignity and freedom are the way of life of Georgians and the Georgian people choose the European future. The representatives of the organizations say that today, the Georgian people clearly choose the European path because this is a free country of free people.

The authors of the statement say that this is a worthy continuation of the struggle for ancestors, freedom, statehood and development, which should make Georgia part of the free world, and ensure a safe, peaceful and dignified life for the citizens of the country:

“Future generations will judge us by what we did – what you did – when the fate of the country was decided. Let us stand together and take a step towards Europe,” the signatories said.

In the first half of June, the European Commission will present an opinion paper on granting EU candidate status to Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine, on the basis of which a decision will be made later by the European Council.
