One of the individuals allegedly involved in the group assault against two employees of ‘SPAR’ supermarket is Jako (Jansugh) Charkviani, the son of well-known singer Mamuka Charkviani.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that the incident occurred on the night of November 2. Manana Giorgobiani, who has since been detained, contacted Jako Charkviani and asked him to come to the scene. Charkviani reportedly arrived with several companions after which the group forcibly took two supermarket employees outside and physically assaulted them. The investigation is ongoing under Articles 225 and 126 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which pertain to organizing and participating in group violence.
In a statement to Interpressnews, Jako Charkviani’s aunt, politician Tako Charkviani, confirmed that her nephew has neither been detained nor questioned by law enforcement. She also emphasized that he has no intention of hiding.
Tako Charkviani explained that her nephew responded to a call for help from Giorgobiani, whom she described as the mother of Jako’s late friend. “As far as I know, this woman called him saying, ‘They’re beating me, help me.’ In the video, you can even hear her say, ‘I’ll call the boys now,’ and then she adds, ‘This one and another one hit me.’ People have been completely misled,” she said.
She added that Jako went to the scene because of a natural human reaction to such a plea: “When the mother of your late friend calls and says, ‘They’re hitting me, please help,’ it’s a human reaction to go there. I’m not saying this to justify him, but that’s what happened. There are many eyewitnesses,” she said.
