Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze responded to an open letter by jailed former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili at a briefing held at the Government Administration, calling it a “very problematic statement.”
He explained that a specific verdict has been handed down in Irakli Garibashvili’s case and “everything else is entirely a matter for the law enforcement agencies.”
“I saw the statement. I do not know what it is about,” Kobakhidze said. “I know one thing – there is a specific verdict that has been handed down. Everything else is entirely a matter for the law enforcement agencies. I cannot comment on his statement at all, including because Irakli Garibashvili held this position before me, and therefore, from an ethical point of view as well, it would not be right for me to assess his statement.
“It is a very problematic statement. I will not make any further comment. It is not problematic for us; it is problematic for him. I will not make any further comment based on ethical standards. He held this position before me. There are ethical standards that restrict my ability to make a statement on this issue.”
The Prime Minister also noted that he had communicated with Georgian Dream founder Bidzina Ivanishvili yesterday, although he claimed that they had not discussed Irakli Garibashvili’s letter.
Former Prime Minister and jailed Irakli Garibashvili says he was sent a letter “on the instructions of Bidzina Ivanishvili” and claims he and his family are being targeted as part of a plan to destroy them.
