Chairman of Georgian Dream, Irakli Kobakhidze, stated that the ruling party made a decision on the large-scale introduction of voter registration and voting with electronic equipment from 2024.
“Last year, the voting procedure was carried out using fully electronic equipment in the Krtsanisi district of Tbilisi. This year, with the use of electronic equipment, the interim elections of the Assembly were held in eight polling stations of Batumi Municipality. The successful experience of voter registration and voting with modern technologies will allow us to implement this initiative on a large-scale from 2024. In particular, as we decided, in the majority of election precincts, including all cities and large settlements, which includes at least 70% of voters, voter registration and voting will be carried out using electronic equipment,” said Kobakhidze.
He noted that electronic voting will finally strengthen the public’s confidence in the vote counting process, eliminate the problem of imbalance in the electoral process, and end speculation forever.
“Our initiative will be given the shape of a draft law in the next few days, after which, based on consultations with the Government of Georgia, the Central Election Commission, and experts in the field, practical steps will be taken to equip the polling stations with voting equipment,” Kobakhidze added.
