King Charles III has congratulated Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili and the Georgian people on the occasion of Independence Day, Georgia’s presidential administration announced.
In a congratulatory letter, the British monarch extended warm wishes to Georgia and highlighted the long-standing ties between the two countries.
“My wife and I extend warm congratulations to the Georgian people on Georgia’s Independence Day. I am very proud of the long-standing friendship between our two nations,” the letter reads.
King Charles III also conveyed his and Queen Camilla’s best wishes to the Georgian people for the year ahead.
Georgia celebrates Independence Day on May 26, commemorating the adoption of the Act of Independence in 1918, when the country declared the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Georgia. Following the restoration of independence in 1991 after Soviet rule, May 26 regained its status as the country’s national Independence Day.
