Peter Fischer, Germany’s ambassador to Georgia, congratulated Georgia on Independence Day, stating that Germany stands alongside all those who support a “free, peaceful and European Georgia.”
In a social media post marking Georgia’s Independence Day, the diplomat said May 26, 1918, symbolizes the Georgian people’s aspiration for freedom and democracy.
“May 26, 1918 marks the Georgian people’s desire for freedom and democracy. Heartfelt congratulations on Georgia’s Independence Day,” Fischer wrote.
The ambassador claimed that Germany continues to support those who advocate for Georgia’s European future.
“Germany today, just as back then, stands with everyone who supports a free, peaceful and European Georgia. Congratulations on Georgia’s Independence Day!” Fischer stated.
Georgia celebrates Independence Day on May 26, commemorating the adoption of the Act of Independence in 1918, when the country declared the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Georgia. Following the restoration of independence in 1991 after Soviet rule, May 26 regained its status as the country’s national Independence Day.
