Georgian judoka Guram Tushishvili claims silver at World Championships

Georgia’s heavyweight judoka Guram Tushishvili has secured a silver medal in the men’s over-100kg category at the Judo World Championships, currently underway in Budapest, Hungary.

Tushishvili reached the final after a strong performance throughout the tournament but narrowly missed gold in a tight match against Inal Tasoev, who competed under a neutral flag.

The Georgian national team concluded the individual events with an impressive haul of four medals. Eteri Liparteliani (57kg) claimed gold, while Tato Grigalashvili (81kg) and Guram Tushishvili (+100kg) took silver. Luka Maisuradze (90kg) earned a bronze to round out the country’s medal count.

Next up is the mixed team competition on 20 June, where Georgia will face China in the round of 16. A victory would lead to a quarter-final matchup against either Hungary or Italy.
