David Gogoberishvili, the former director of Gldani Penitentiary, has been found dead.
Based on information obtained by Interpressnews, his body was discovered in a garage, bearing a gunshot wound.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed that an investigation has been launched under Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which pertains to incitement to suicide.
Gogoberishvili, along with his deputy, resigned from their positions several months ago. Their departure was linked to an incident at the penitentiary involving former Co-Investment Fund head Giorgi Bachiashvili, who is currently serving a prison sentence.
On July 11, a physical altercation took place at Facility No. 8 between Bachiashvili and another inmate, Metreveli. Following the incident, the Special Penitentiary Service announced that Gogoberishvili and the deputy director of the Penitentiary Department, Giga Kemoklidze, had stepped down from their posts.
