The European and Georgian flags were flown at half-mast outside the Palace of Europe in Strasbourg in tribute to the late Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Ilia II.
The decision was made by Council of Europe Secretary General Alain Berset as a mark of respect for the Patriarch’s legacy.
Ilia II passed away on March 17 at the age of 93. A period of national mourning has been declared across Georgia following his death.
He will be laid to rest at Sioni Cathedral on March 22.
