In early September, the picturesque regions of Western Georgia became the backdrop for a transformative gathering of young minds eager to drive change. From September 5 to 8, the inaugural Youth Leaders’ Camp took place, bringing together 19 passionate young individuals from Imereti, Guria, Samegrelo-Upper Svaneti, and Racha-Lechkhumi and Lower Svaneti. This initiative was part of the Resilient, Engaged, Active Civil Society for Transformation (REACT for Georgia) project, supported by the European Union and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.

The camp provided a platform for participants to share experiences, discuss regional challenges, and collaborate on solutions. Through workshops and team-building activities, attendees developed skills in leadership, project planning, and community engagement.

“Meeting peers from different regions was enlightening,” shared Nino, a 24-year-old from Samegrelo. “We realized that despite our diverse backgrounds, we share common goals and challenges. This camp has inspired me to initiate a youth-led environmental project in my community.”

REACT for Georgia, launched in February 2025, aims to strengthen civil society across Georgia’s regions by promoting democratic governance and civic engagement. The project focuses on implementing local community initiatives, enhancing youth skills, and fostering cooperation with local businesses. It includes a grant component to support civil society hubs, local initiatives, civil activists, and corporate social responsibility.

According to Natiko Taktakishvili, a representative from the project, “The Youth Leaders’ Camp is a testament to the potential of Georgia’s youth. By empowering them with the right tools and networks, we are paving the way for a more resilient and active civil society.”

The camp’s success underscores the importance of such initiatives in fostering a generation of leaders committed to positive change. As Georgia continues its journey towards deeper European integration, projects like REACT for Georgia play a crucial role in building a democratic and inclusive society.
