Today, on April 16, the Parliament of Georgia will start the discussion of the Russian law, which was supported by the Legal Affairs Committee yesterday, with the first reading of the session.
At the same time, the first protest action will start outside the parliament at 12 o’clock, and the second action will be held in the evening at 7 p.m.
The Parliament announced that the yellow level of security will be in effect in the legislative body — visitors are restricted from entering the Parliament Palace.
Based on the official information, only persons invited by the relevant structural units will be admitted to the planned parliamentary events (including committee meetings).
Similar to April 15, only TV channels will be able to cover the ongoing processes in the Parliament. Print and online media were banned from entering the building today.
In the first reading on April 15, the Legal Affairs Committee supported the Russian law restricting media and civil society.
On April 15, protests were held in front of the Parliament since morning, but in the evening the protest became larger and the situation became tense.
Special forces and special equipment were mobilized near the Parliament building.
The committee discussion of the Russian law was noisy throughout the day. A number of opposition MPs were kicked out of the committee session for asking tough questions, and their microphones were turned off for mentioning the “Russian law”.
