Alexander Khojevanishvili, Deputy Head of the State Security Service, has resigned.
Khojevanishvili left the post on March 2 based on a personal statement, the press service of the Agency has confirmed.
He was appointed Deputy Head of SSSG, Georgia’s domestic intelligence agency, in 2019. Prior to that, he held the position of Chief of the General Inspection of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Earlier, following the resignation of Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia, Head of Government Administration Kakha Kemoklidze and Deputy Head of the Government Administration Berdia Sichinava also left newly appointed Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili’s cabinet.
For the record, Giorgi Gakharia resigned as Prime Minister on February 18 and named disagreement with the government team over the arrest of Nika Melia, the new leader of the opposition United National Movement party, as the reason behind his decision.
