The construction cost index increased by 0.5% in May 2026 compared to the previous month and by 4.1% compared to May 2025, the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat) reports.
The index reflects the average price level of construction materials and services required for residential, non-residential, and civil construction projects.
The statistics office reported that the residential construction segment index decreased by 0.5% month-on-month but increased by 0.3% year-on-year. The non-residential segment index rose by 0.3% compared to April and by 7% compared to May 2025, while the civil construction segment index increased by 1.5% month-on-month and by 6.8% year-on-year.
Geostat said the monthly increase in the overall construction cost index was mainly driven by a 0.6% rise in construction material prices, which contributed 0.35 percentage points to the total change.
The annual increase was largely caused by a 17.2% rise in transportation, fuel, and electricity costs in the construction sector, contributing 2.06 percentage points to the total change. A 1.1% increase in the average monthly nominal wage of hired employees added another 1.12 percentage points.
Compared to February 2022, the construction cost index has increased by 28.1%.
