The head of the EU Delegation to Georgia, Carl Hartzell, says he is concerned about reports of Mikheil Saakashvili’s health.
He noted that the responsibility for Saakashvili’s physical and mental health rests with the state.
“First of all, I should mention that I do not have information from the first source about Mikheil Saakashvili’s condition, nor am I a doctor to judge correctly, but I am concerned about the information we receive from the reports, including the opinions of medical experts, about his condition.
“The main thing for me and the EU is that the state bears responsibility for Saakashvili’s physical and mental health. It’s not a matter of political choice, it is a fundamental human right,” said Carl Hartzell.
Based on the conclusion of the group of medical experts created by the Public Defender, Mikheil Saakashvili developed anorexia and protein starvation as a result of post-traumatic stress disorder, and at this stage timely complex neuro-psychological and physical rehabilitation is recommended.
Saakashvili’s family is asking the Georgian government to take him abroad for treatment.
