Batumi officially launched the festive season with the ceremonial lighting of the city’s main New Year tree at Europe Square. The event is the start of a wide-ranging holiday program planned across Adjara.
The tree-lighting ceremony was attended by the Chairman of the Adjara Government, Sulkhan Tamazashvili, who joined the celebration with his family. Batumi Mayor Giorgi Tsintsadze lit the city’s main Christmas tree together with children, emphasizing the family-oriented character of the event.
Alongside the ceremony, Batumi’s ‘New Year Village’ opened at Europe Square, featuring festive decorations and installations. The space includes entrepreneurial and gastronomic areas as well as a program of children’s entertainment, performances and concerts by both local and invited artists.
The city will welcome the New Year with a large gala concert while the holiday celebrations will conclude on January 7 with a Christmas concert.
Festive events are also being held throughout the Adjara region. On the same day, main Christmas trees were lit in Khulo and Shuakhevi while similar ceremonies in Keda, Khelvachauri and Kobuleti are scheduled for December 22.
The information was released by the press service of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara.
