US Embassy in Georgia releases details on visa bond requirement

The US Embassy in Georgia has published additional information regarding the visa bond program, under which certain applicants will be required to provide a financial guarantee when applying for US visas.

Embassy says starting April 2, 2026, Georgian nationals who are otherwise eligible for B1/B2 visas will be required to post a bond of up to $15,000.

“At the time of the interview, the consular officer will inform the applicant whether they are eligible for a visa and will provide instructions on how to pay this bond,” the embassy said in a statement.

Applicants are advised not to use third-party websites to submit payments and not to pay any bond before receiving direct instructions from a consular officer. The embassy also clarified that B1/B2 visas cannot be issued until the required bond has been paid, and that the rule applies regardless of where the application is submitted.

Further information is available on the official website of the US Embassy in Georgia.

Georgia was recently added to the list of countries subject to the visa bond requirement. On March 18, the US State Department expanded the program to include Georgia along with 11 other countries: Cambodia, Ethiopia, Grenada, Lesotho, Mauritius, Mongolia, Mozambique, Nicaragua, Papua New Guinea, Seychelles, and Tunisia.

The requirement applies to short-term visas, specifically B1 visas for business travel and B2 visas for tourism or medical purposes.
