“For the first time in the history of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, we do not have Georgian representatives present at the official meetings. This Assembly is not only a forum to assess the situation, but a platform to stand together and fight the same evil — and the name of that evil is the colonial-imperialist Russian Federation,” declared Lithuanian Member of the European Parliament Rasa Juknevičienė during the 12th session of Euronest in Yerevan, in the meeting of the Committee on Political Affairs, Human Rights and Democracy.
She welcomed the positive developments in Armenia, notably the historic signing of a peace agreement, while contrasting that with the situation in Georgia. “It pains me deeply to read our reports on what is happening on the ground in Georgia — a country that only a few years ago was a leader among the Eastern Partnership states in terms of reforms and progress. I do not believe this state of affairs will last forever, and our future reports will reflect that,” she added.
For context, the Georgian Parliament’s delegation chose not to attend the 12th Ordinary Session of the Euronest PA in Yerevan.
