Bread prices increase by up to 10 Tetri

BMG reports that from October 15, the price of bread in Georgia has risen by 5 to 10 tetri, a change confirmed by both major producers and retailers. The Head of the Georgian Bakers’ Association, Malkhaz Dolidze, stated that the price adjustment is primarily driven by the increase in flour prices and rising wages in the bakery industry.

“Only two producers adjusted prices, and only for certain product types—by about 10 tetri. Out of this, around 7 tetri stays with the producers,” Dolidze told BM.GE. “This year, flour prices have been rising steadily. Last year, a bag cost around 52 GEL, and now it’s roughly 60 GEL. In addition, workers are asking for higher wages and better working conditions.”

Despite the increase, the market remains stable overall. In Tbilisi alone, around 400 tons of bread products are consumed daily while national consumption reaches about 700,000 tons annually.
