Georgian musician and composer Mamuka Charkviani has passed away at the age of 69. The news was announced by his relatives on social media.
Mamuka Charkviani received the first prize at the “Liga” song festival in the category of Georgian traditional song for “Mtsvane Rtoebi” (Green Branches, 1996), the award for the best song of the 20th century for “Maghla da Maghla” (Higher and Higher, 1999), and the Golden Disc in the category of Best Song of the Year for “Chemi Agara Khar” (You’re No Longer Mine), “Gazapkhuli” (Spring), “April”, and “Dedis Jeri” (Mother’s Turn).
On May 10, 2014, his star was unveiled in front of the Grand Concert Hall of the Philharmonic.
In 2023, he was named an Honorary Citizen of Tbilisi. In 2000, he was awarded the Order of Honor.
