The leader of the For Georgia party, Giorgi Gakharia, responded to the termination of his party’s parliamentary mandates with a statement on X, calling the move politically motivated and reminiscent of Kremlin-style tactics.
“Stripping our mandates was never about procedure,” Gakharia wrote. “It was about paving the way for politically motivated prosecutions, revoking immunity ahead of fabricated charges, and removing a major political threat before the municipal elections.”
Gakharia says the ruling Georgian Dream party acted as a “one-party regime,” unanimously voting to revoke all 12 mandates held by For Georgia MPs.
He emphasized that the party’s parliamentary boycott following the “fraudulent” 2024 elections was a legitimate constitutional right, intended to reject a legislature they viewed as compromised—while still honoring the will of their voters.
“We’ve seen this before—remove immunity, invent criminal charges, and eliminate political alternatives. It’s a page straight out of the Kremlin’s playbook,” Gakharia stated.
The mandates of For Georgia MPs were officially terminated due to prolonged, unjustified absences from parliamentary sessions. Those affected include: Giorgi Gakharia, Teona Akubardia, Ana Buchukuri, Levan Gogichaishvili, Zaza Tavadze, Beka Liluashvili, Natia Mezvrishvili, Berdia Sichinava, Kakha Kemoklidze, Roin Kochorashvili, Dimitri Tskitishvili, and Zviad Dzidziguri.
