In a joint statement marking Georgia’s Independence Day, the leaders of France, Germany, and Poland expressed strong support for the democratic and European aspirations of the Georgian people, reaffirming their commitment to Georgia’s path toward European integration.
“We support the democratic and European aspirations of the Georgian people, which reflect their strong desire to join the European family,” the statement reads.
The three countries also issued a sharp rebuke of recent developments in Georgia, criticizing the government for actions that undermine democratic principles.
“We condemn any actions by the Georgian authorities that contribute to democratic backsliding, including attacks on civil society, the media, and individuals who express criticism of the government. The rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly must be upheld,” the statement said.
The joint message comes amid ongoing public protests in Georgia and growing international concern over the ruling party’s policies, which many fear are distancing the country from its European trajectory.
