Media representatives are holding a rally outside Parliament in support of Mzia Amaglobeli, the founder of the Batumelebi and Netgazeti media outlet. They are demanding Amaglobeli’s immediate release.
The rally participants claim that the detention imposed on Mzia Amaglobeli as a preventive measure is illegal, and her hunger strike poses a threat to her life and health.
Additionally, the protesters state that they reject the legislative changes initiated by the Georgian Dream.
The rally participants marched to the side entrance of the Parliament, during which the police urged them not to occupy the road. The protesters stated they had no intention of blocking the roadway. Nevertheless, a confrontation occurred between the rally participants and law enforcement officers.
Currently, the protesters remain in front of Parliament. Law enforcement officers are mobilized in the area.
The tensions at the rally rose again when law enforcement officers removed two individuals from the location.
Mzia Amaglobeli, founder and director of the media outlet Batumelebi and Netgazeti, is on a hunger strike at Rustavi Prison. The Batumi City Court ordered her imprisonment as a preventive measure on January 14, following her arrest on January 12 under Article 353 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to the assault of a police officer.
